United Malaysian Hindu Voice (UMHV) urges the Hindu community to avoid massive religious gatherings as the nation is fighting against the Covid-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. In light of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s announcement, UMHV also urges all temples to close doors to the public. Those who have previously attended gatherings should do medical screening to make sure they and their loved ones are safe.
The public must also make sure they maintain hygiene and stock up sanitizers to combat Covid-19 infection.
Malaysians should also observe necessary precautions including personal hygiene, frequent handwashing with soap, covering mouth during coughing and sneezing. Also, avoid contact with people showing symptoms of flu to combat the infection from spreading. Hindus and Malaysians should reduce meat intake and try to be vegetarian.
UMHV also urges Malaysians to use the Hindu greeting of namaste to greet people and avoid handshake. UMHV hopes that Malaysians will stay calm and abide by the nationwide movement restriction order from March 18 to March 31, 2020, as per the Prime Minister’s announcement.
UMHV will be closing all its community centers and postponed all activities until further notice as per Prime Minister’s advice.
